Norfolk Scope

Norfolk Admirals - American Hockey League

Norfolk, VA

A very 70's arena in appearance. The domed ceiling reminded me of being in a planetarium! Good sightlines in the arena. Building is a bit strange as the seating is kind of like a ship. There are no seats on the glass behind the goals, but only elevated about 10 feet. The seats from the goal lines go down to the floor, although there is definitely room for another row in front of the first row. What is also strange is that the locker rooms are on the opposite side of the ice from where the benches are. The teams have to skate past the opposing team to get to their locker room. What is also nice about the arena is that you can get downstairs near the locker room to wait for the players as they leave. You can get within 20 feet of the locker room door.

Parking: There is plenty of parking around the arena, including an outdoor lot across the street and a parking garage connected to the arena. Both are $4.

Camera policy: Cameras are allowed in the Scope, just no video or flash.

Food:  The food at the Scope was decent.  The pizza was edible. Beer prices looked reasonable at $5.50 for a 24 oz beer.

Arena rating: ** 1/2 / Food rating **

Restaurant Recommendations:  We thoroughly enjoyed the Freemason Abbey Restaurant (209 W Freemason St) which is about 5 blocks from the arena.  The restaurant was transformed from an old church and is a beautiful building.  The crab soup was fantastic, as was the onion soup.  We then enjoyed the chicken and shrimp etouffe.  The desserts looked very good as well.
