I believe that every die-hard hockey fan must make the “pilgrimage” to Johnstown to see where Slapshot was filmed. It’s pretty amazing that the arena really hasn’t changed all that much since the movie was filmed (although there are plans to renovate the War Memorial after this season, assuming the Chiefs don’t fold – just like in the movie). The War Memorial is dark and the seats are very uncomfortable, but it’s a great place to see a game. The one thing that surprised me was that there was virtually no mention of the movie anywhere in the arena.
Parking: Parking is a breeze. There is the arena lot, where we parked for $3, or just park on the street.
Camera policy: I had no problem bringing my camera in the arena.
Food: The food at the War Memorial wasn’t all that good, but was cheap. Also, you can’t beat getting a large Iron City Light for $4!
