The Pepsi Arena is a nice arena in downtown Albany. I find it is somewhat similar to the Spectrum. The sightlines are pretty good. With the River Rats only drawing a few thousand per night, the upper level has been curtained off. There are many restaurants/bars around the arena for pre or post game food and drink.
Parking: There is ample parking next to or behind the Pepsi Arena and is $5 or $6 depending on which garage you choose. The garage behind the arena has a covered bridge connecting the garage (level 3) and the concourse. They even have a shed to purchase tickets so you don't have to go all the way to the bottom level to the main box office.
Camera policy: Although there are signs outside the building stating cameras are not allowed, I had no problem getting mine in. I basically stood next to a security guard during warm-ups and he didn't say a word to me.
The food: Typical arena fare and is pretty good.
Arena rating: ** / Food rating **
Restaurant Recommendations: Jillian's (59 N Pearl Street, 2 minute walk from the arena). This "gaming" chain has good food, great selection and reasonable prices. Also a fun place to go after the game for a drink and games.
Note: I would personally avoid the Big House Brewing Company on N Pearl Street. The food was decent at best. We had a medium burger that was salty and well-done and a chicken and pasta dish that was devoid of flavor. The beer was average at best as well.
Depending on which direction you are coming from, Malt River Brewing Company (in Latham Circle Mall minutes off Route 87) is excellent. Very good beers and good food. We stopped in on the way back to Philly for lunch and enjoyed the Grilled Indonesian Chicken Satay and chili. Their Malt River Red is an excellent beer choice.
